  • Prepaid Health Care Cards Gain Consumer Support (March 28, 2007)
    A recent survey about paying for health care found that a new tool is improving the process of health care spending and reimbursement. The survey, commissioned by the Network Branded Prepaid Card Association (NBPCA) and conducted by Kupersmit Research, found that consumers with prepaid health care cards, as part of their flexible spending account (FSA), were far more satisfied with being able to easily and efficiently pay for eligible health care expenses.* Eighty-one percent of respondents who have a prepaid health care card are extremely or very satisfied with their FSA versus 66% of FSA users without a prepaid health care card. The NBPCA is a non-profit, inter-industry trade association created in 2005 to advance the success of network branded prepaid cards. 
  • Evolution Benefits Increases Patent Portfolio of Advanced Auto-Substantiation Technologies (March 28, 2007)
    The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office extended its recognition of Evolution Benefits' (EB) significant advances in the electronic benefit payment services industry by granting the company its second U.S. patent in as many months. EB's newest patent, U.S. Patent 7,197,468, titled "Methods and Systems for Processing Transactions Involving Accounts for Reimbursing Medical Expenses or Patient Responsible Balances with Multiple Transactions Substantiation Modes" enables the seamless and dynamic management of real-time and retrospective substantiation methods at the individual cardholder level for an employer group. Regardless of which method is used to substantiate a purchase as an allowable IRS expense, cardholders can use their Benny(TM) Prepaid Benefits to debit their FSA or HRA and achieve the highest level of substantiation available.

  • Federal Regulators Seek Public Comment on Model Privacy Notice (March 21, 2007)
    Eight federal regulators today released a notice of proposed rulemaking (NPR) requesting comment on a model privacy form that financial institutions can use for their privacy notices to consumers required by the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act (GLB Act). The privacy notices must describe an institution’s information sharing practices, and, for certain types of sharing, consumers have the right to opt out. The notices must be provided when a consumer first becomes a customer of a financial institution and then annually for as long as the customer relationship lasts.
